The active ingredient Naproxen in generic Aleve works by reducing the amount of prostaglandins, chemicals that are responsible for soreness, fever and infection. The drug obstructs the actual molecule that produces prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase), leading to decrease concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation, pain along with nausea are usually reduced.
Directions
It is recommended dosage of generic Aleve for adults is one tablet every 8 to 12 hours when symptoms last. One should take them along with a full glass of water. One can take 2 tablets in the first hour but that should not be exceeded in the 8-12 hours period. Children under 12 must not be given this medicine except under the advice and prescription of a physician. Do note that generic aleve should not be taken for more than 10 days continuously unless prescribed by a physician.
Warnings
Generic Aleve has been observed to make some patients dizzy or drowsy, hence it’s very vital that after taking the drug the patient should not do any activity that requires alertness like driving and working on heavy machinery. Certain patients have reported stomach bleeding and the risk increases when the patient has been consuming tobacco and alcohol.
