Sexually transmitted diseases (STD), as the name suggests, are the diseases which transfer from one person to another through unsafe sexual activities. They are basically caused due to virus, bacteria and parasitic but then travel through person to through via unsafe sex.
When we hear about STD the only name which comes to our mind is HIV/AIDS. It is common among the people and is non-treatable. The reason of its spread is unsafe sex and people who are suffering from this virus won’t even know that they are carrying it as its symptoms are not clearly visible. But, apart from this, there are other diseases also which comes under STD and can affect your life.
Types Of STDs:
1. HIV/AIDS: HIV (the human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus which attacks on the defense mechanism of your body. Due to the failure of the defense mechanism you’re open to various others problems and diseases. It can travel from person to person with unsafe sex and use of same needle of syringe. AIDS (the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is the advanced stage of HIV. There can be improper gap between the two. HIV may have symptoms of fever or viral but AIDS can happen after a month, few weeks or even few years. As your immune system is already dead, you can die from even a small flu. There is no proper medication available to fight with this virus. The only option is maintain your health once you’re diagnosed with HIV. This could stop the virus to spread and move to the advance stage.
2. Chlamydia: It is caused by bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis, and directly affects the reproductive system of the woman. This is considered as the most common disease in the US. This disease, however, has mild symptoms or no symptoms at times, can affect women way before she can realize. This spreads through oral, anal and vaginal sex. And, if a mother is infected with this bacterium, it could travel to the child. Women with more sexual partner are at greater risk of having this disease. It can be cured with the help of antibiotic if diagnosed at the right time. It is advisable that women of and under the age of 25 should go for a regular checkup every year.
3. Gonorrhea: It is a curable disease which affects the anus, mouth and genital tactic of young adults. It is found in both, men and women. In men it has symptoms like pain in the penis while urinating or discharge. And if it is left unattended, it could lead to infertility. Whereas in women it can use the pain while urinating, blood during periods or even increase discharge from the vagina. In women also, if it is left unattended, it can lead to infertility. This can be cured with antibiotics.
4. Genital Herpes: It is caused by the virus herpes simplex. It travels through unsafe sex and even oral. One can find the symptoms after 30 days of having sex. The symptoms could be small painful blisters, itchy and painful. Sometimes, people even have mild symptoms due to which they are not aware if they are suffering it or not. Medication would not help you treat it properly but would help you to fight this virus.
5. Trichomoniasis: This can affect both men and women but the symptoms are most common in women. It is caused by parasite and can show symptoms like problem while urinating, yellow or green discharge from vagina, itching in or near the vagina. Whereas in men, it can go away without any symptom. But, an infected man can infect a woman if not treated well.
6. Syphilis: It is caused by bacteria and it infects lips, mouth, anus and genital area in both men and women. It usually causes non itchy rashes but few don’t even get any symptoms. If a pregnant woman is suffering from this disease then she can even lose the baby. It can be treated through antibiotics.
7. HPV: HPV, Human papillomaviruses, are of almost 100 types out of which 30 can be harmful to your health. It directly affects your genitals and can spread through unsafe sex. They are defined in two types; low risks, which can cause warts in your genitals and high risk which can even cause cancer. There is no proper symptom of this disease but few might develop warts in their genitals. Proper treatment or use of condom can prevent it.
